What is the top challenge or obstacle facing health care today?
I believe that the top challenge facing health care today is, as it has always been, to provide high quality, high value care to everyone.
What has you most optimistic about the future of health care?
Talking to young people who decide to go into health care as a career makes me optimistic about the future.
What motivates you to keep doing the work that you do?
I am motivated by the knowledge that our organization is helping patients who have both Medicare and Medicaid to lead the best, healthiest lives that they can. I am motivated by our incredible workforce who literally hit the street daily to advocate for and care for our members. I am motivated by my memories of patients over the years – people I helped and, especially, people I couldn’t help.
What’s the one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring health care leader?
Listen more than you talk. Especially, listen to patients, clients, and members. Seek to hear voices that can’t speak for themselves. Care about patients, people, and experience.
What’s one life hack that you have to make your day-to-day life more productive?
I block time on my own calendar a few times a week to work on projects, think about new initiatives, or accommodate unexpected meetings.
