Across health and behavioral health care settings, there are many opportunities to identify and provide effective care to those at risk for suicide, yet most providers never ask people about their risk, most health care systems are poorly prepared to care for people at risk, and most individuals at risk often go undetected. Suicide prevention must be seen as a core responsibility with a multilevel system view on suicide prevention, including those treating patients who misuse substances. This workshop will highlight Zero Suicide, an innovative and effective model by which health and behavioral health care organizations are changing organizational practices and providing improved care for patients at risk for suicide and overdose.
